Graeme Dott is a surprise finalist in this years World Snooker Championship after a gritty performance against Selby last night at the Crucible. Dott was never favourite to win the match even at two frames up with only another two needed to clinch the victory because of Neil Roberton’s reputation for making comebacks in big events. Neil Robertson

Neil Robertson has taken an early lead in the first session against Ali Carter in the World Snooker Championship semi-final. Robertson opened a four frame 6-2 to lead and maintained his four frame advantage in the second session to finish 10-6. The Australian has racked up three centuries so far with breaks of 124, 140 and 104. The match started off with some untidy snooker but Robertson made the best of it and gained the advantage. Ali Carter was keen to make an immediate impact in the second session but didn’t get the opportunity as Robertson his a 140 break to extend his lead to 7-2. The following frame went to a re-spotted black but Carter played a suicide shot – a long range fine cut that needed to go in or the frame was lost. He got very close but left it over the pocket for Neil Robertson to knock in and extend his lead to six frames. It was a poor decision but it was clear Ali Carter intended to pot his way out of trouble. He did just that in the following four frames winning all of them and closing the lead to 8-6. However, Robertson responded by winning the last two frames of the session including a century break of 104. Robertson v Carter resumes this evening at 7:00pm.

Graeme Dott

Graeme Dott had an excellent start in his match against Mark Selby and will be disappointed even with his 5-3 lead. Mark Selby looked jaded, perhaps after a gruelling game against Ronnie O’Sullivan the previous day. Selby finished yesterday’s session with a high century break of 142 which was in stark contrast to his performance in the first 7 frames. It’s a testament to his experience and ability that he won the other two frames of the session because his looked completely out of sorts. Graeme Dott might regret that he wasn’t more clinical in the first session because a two frame lead is easily closed in a 33 frame match and he’ll know the gap could’ve been bigger. I wouldn’t bet against a come back from Selby but it has to be remembered that of the four semi-finalists Dott is the only player to have previously won the trophy.

We’ll probably see a different Mark Selby in today’s session than we did yesterday now is he’s had some rest after his quarter final match and had the opportunity to regain his composure. Who are you backing to win in the Dott v Selby match?

Mark Selby hasn’t had the start he would’ve hoped for against Graeme Dott. The players finished the first session with 2 frames a piece. Selby may be a little jaded after his quarter final match against Ronnie O’Sullivan in the quarter final. Steve Davis and Dennis Taylor will recreate the 1985 World Snooker Championship final with a single frame match at the Crucible on the 29th of April 2010, on the 25th anniversary of their match. Neil Robertson

Neil Robertson ended a superb run by Steve Davis in the World Snooker Championship to secure a place in the semi final against Ali Carter. Robertson has played shown good form in the tournament so far and comfortably beat Fergal O’Brien 10-5 in the first round. Neil Robertson had a tricky match in the Neil Robertsonsecond round against Martin Gould

and looked like he might get knocked out until he managed to gain some momentum and win the frame in the final frame at 13-12.

Ali Carter

Ali Carter progressed into the second round comfortably beating Jamie Cope 10 frames to 4 but two difficult matches followed and he’s had to show a lot of character to stay in the competition. In his second round match he won 13-11 against Joe Perry and in the quarter final he battled with Shaun Murphy to clinch a final frame 13-12 win.

The winner will go on to face Mark Selby or Graeme Dott in the World Snooker Championship final and both will hope that Graeme Dott can cause a semi final upset as Mark Selby is playing some sensational snooker.
